NEW SALEM: Monday Meditation Series with Jo Ellen Boskind, Mondays, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. There will be multiple sessions: July 7, and July 21. Jo will lead us in guided meditation and walking meditation, with time for sharing personal experiences with the practice as well as questions and answers. The orientation of the classes will be to keep the teachings as simple as possible, making it accessible for anyone with an interest in learning (or re-learning) to meditate. All are welcome to join us.

WARWICK: Let’s Talk Ticks - Tuesday, July 8th @ 7 pm: Join Samantha, our public health nurse, for a free
presentation about ticks, tick-borne illnesses and tick bite prevention. NOTE: Samantha will be
offering free Permethrin spraying to hiking/outdoor boots and shoes at these events (Please bring a
spare pair to wear).

ORANGE: Seeds of Solidarity - Friday July 11th, 9am to 12PM Chocolate with a View: Group Hike! Whether you already enjoy exploring local natural beauty, or would like to do more with others for the comfort or camaraderie, join us! We’ll hike to Soapstone Hill (from the Women’s Federated Forest) and enjoy a stunning view of the Quabbin—with chocolate and other snacks provided. Along the way, biologist Paula Packard will offer insights about animals, aquatic life, and their habitats. Moderate hike with some uphill, about 1 hour of walking each way. WARWICK: Non-Fiction Discussion Group - Thursday, July 17th @ 7 pm: This discussion group is wide
open: Could be something you’re reading now or from long ago; science, history, memoirs,
biographies; articles, books, newsletters, journals. It’s all up for discussion at the new non-fiction
discussion group. Designed for independent, asynchronous reading, we’ll get together to share our
favorite non-fiction reads and make recommendations. Come to share/discuss or just to listen and
build your reading list.

WARWICK: Mobile MakerSpace workshop (#7) - Electronic Soldering: Saturday, July 19th @ 1 pm - for
ages 12 and up: Learn the basics of soldering and electronic components through building a light up
circuit board. Space is limited—please register in advance. Programs will run approx. 90 minutes.​
WARWICK: Sunday, July 20 at 1 p.m. Hike With a View - Where to meet: Shoulder parking on Richmond Road at the intersection of Richmond Road and the New England Trail (about 1.9 miles north of the four-way intersection of Richmond, Athol, and Hastings Heights Roads). The Hike: This out-and-back hike is approximately 1.8 miles (about 0.9 miles each way) with a change in elevation of about 350 feet. We will hike south and then east along a section of the New
England Trail to a high point with a nice view of our own Mount Grace. Wear your bug repellant and
bring a water bottle. We will have maps and a trail description available.

WARWICK: Monthly Short Story Hour - Grace Paley, Thursday, July 24th @ 7:30 pm. We'll read selections
from A Grace Paley Reader (2017). "A writer like Paley," writes George Saunders, “comes along and
brightens language up again, takes it aside and gives it a pep talk, sends it back renewed, so it can
do its job, which is to wake us up.” Best known for her inimitable short stories, Grace Paley was also
an enormously talented essayist and poet, as well as a fierce activist. She was a tireless member of
the antiwar movement, the civil rights movement, and the tenants’ rights movement, among other
causes, and proved herself to be a passionate citizen of each of her communities―New York City
and rural Vermont. “Her short stories are among the finest produced by an American.” (Kirkus
Reviews) Come to read or just to listen.

ORANGE: Seeds of Solidarity - Friday August 15th, 2-5PM Belly-licious! Bring wellness and love to your beautiful belly, inside and out! Dancer and healing arts practitioner Karen Traub will guide us in joyful, playful bellydance-inspired movement for all abilities, plus share her knowledge of acupressure points that can aid and ease digestion. With Deb, enjoy sampling some delicious probiotic foods that help build a healthy belly/gut microbiome for physical and emotional wellness. We’ll also make an herbal belly balm for you to take home! ORANGE: Seeds of Solidarity - Saturday September 13th, 1-5pm Shrines to the Natural World - An altar-making workshop for gardens + yards, fields + forests. Participants will build a small wooden structure to ‘house’ sacred objects placed inside. Before we head off into the farm + forest for some of those objects, we will share practices that communicate our respect for the natural world. Feel free to bring objects from home to add to your shrine, ones that can withstand New England weather. As part of this journey, we invite you to install your shrine to the natural world at the 27th annual North Quabbin Garlic + Arts Festival on September 27 + 28. Phyllis Labanowski. Are you a farmer or market gardener seeking to start or transition to no-till methods that use simple tools, build healthy soil, reduce labor and cost inputs, promote climate resilience and increase your connection to the land? You’ll learn several no-till, climate resilience techniques in this experiential, day-long workshop with seasoned farmer Ricky Baruc. Plus, special guest soil science presenter.
